Jenny Mahlen

Vice President, Fairbanks

Jenny Mahlen will always go the extra mile in life and for her First National Bank Alaska customers.

Just look at the running resume.

A Vice President and a full-time bank employee since 1994, Mahlen is one of First National’s many local experts in all aspects of commercial and consumer lending. She also ran her first marathon in 2001 and completed her 10th last year – a little thing we like to call the Boston Marathon.

“A serious runner has to dedicate themselves to a goal and put in the time and commitment to get it done,” Mahlen said. “I’m happy to say we rely on a similar mentality at the bank. When a customer comes to see us, we make sure to do everything we can to get them what they want and need.”

Mahlen’s passion for running is evident in her dedication to various running activities in Fairbanks. She’s served multiple years on the board of directors for Running Club North and can regularly be found at local high school track meets, where she volunteers as a certified track and field official. These kinds of accomplishments don’t happen without hard work and commitment.

“In preparing for a marathon, you usually put together a 16-to-18 week training plan,” she said. “It can be hard to get a 20-mile run in when it’s 20 below, so you have to stay dedicated. You put in a lot of work on the treadmill and do a lot of cross training.”

Mahlen takes a similar approach when working with her customers.

“You have to take the time to get to know people and allow them to get to know you,” Mahlen said. “Knowledge is key and the more we know about one another, the more help we can be to one another.

“I’m fortunate to have had the great opportunity to learn from some of the best people in the financial industry here at First National. That kind of expertise has only made me a better banker.”
