Finding the right fit

Mark Anderson

Kodiak Branch Manager

Finding the right fit

A friend approached Mark Anderson in 1992 and told him he would make a good bank branch manager. Shortly thereafter, Anderson decided to give the banking field a try and took a management trainee job at First National Bank Alaska.

I guess my friend was right, Anderson said. Banking just seemed to be a good fit.

About a year later Anderson was promoted to branch manager in Seward, moving five years later to his present position as branch manager in Kodiak.

He said he loves both the community and his job.

No two days are the same, Anderson said. Im a real part of peoples lives. They tell me about their successes, their failures, and their vision. Its a very personal part of their life story.

Anderson said doing business in Kodiak adds even more to the enjoyment.

Kodiak is big enough that you dont know everybody, he said. But you get to know a lot of people, including all the business people. There is a real opportunity to become a part of the community.

Anderson, his wife and three children have immersed themselves in the community. He is a member of the Kodiak Arts Council, Kodiak Rotary and the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce, currently serving as chairman of the economic development committee.

But Anderson said being part of the Kodiak community really means being linked with the ocean.

Everyone in some way is connected with the sea, he said. After seven years of listening to my customers, Im beginning to understand that the ocean is really our common ground.
