Tieszen Chiropractic and Massage, not for the spineless
When Dr. Neil Tieszen made his way from Minnesota to Alaska nearly two decades ago, he dreamed of climbing the highest mountain in North America. Today he still enjoys spending time outdoors and since then hes climbed his way to the top of the chiropractic field. After 16 years as a chiropractor in Alaska, Dr. Tieszen and his wife Shauna started their own clinic. We opened Tieszen Chiropractic and Massage a little over a year ago, and so far business has been great, said Tieszen. When Tieszen Chiropractic opened in 2005, the business started off with less than a handful of employees. Today there are more than a dozen employees on staff, including seven therapists. Were able to offer more services and more flexible scheduling than ever before, said Tieszen. Our First National loan officer really helped us get our business up and running. While Dr. Tieszen is busy working with patients, Shauna Tieszen is busy balancing the books. She said their business success is due in large part to the expert banking help she gets at First National. Tieszen said its important to have someone in Anchorage she can talk to about the unique banking needs of operating a clinic. First National has been there for us the whole time, said Tieszen. Its nice to have a community bank involved. They really understand our business goals. Although business got off to a great start, the Tieszens wanted to be able to provide more services like in-house x-rays and infrared light therapy, but in order to accomplish that, they needed funding. In order to offer the services and operate the business as we are now, we would have needed a nest egg of $200,000, said Tieszen. As a young business, theres no way we would have been able to do that and be able to keep up with the costs of running the business. When Loan Officer Siri Hill approached the Tieszens about a new program designed to turn outstanding accounts receivables into cash within 24 to 48 hours, the Tieszens jumped at the opportunity. The MedCashManager program gives them more financial freedom, said Hill. Funds are available within 24 hours that, before, were tied up for months. According to the Tieszens, using the Web-based program made it possible for them to offer additional services because they were able to purchase new, state-of-the-art equipment months before they thought possible. We were relieved, said Tieszen. The program provides us more than access to equipment, it means we can build our business and have what we worked so hard for now, instead of later. Today Tieszen Chiropractic and Massage offers a full range of services including decompression therapy, cold laser light therapy, electrical interferential therapy and more.
Their new decompression table, also known a traction table, is used to relieve pressure on structures that may be causing low-back pain associated with herniated discs, protruding discs, degenerative disc disease, posterior facet syndrome and sciatica. The cold laser machine is used to promote healing in a number of soft tissue injuries, including carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis pain and other inflammatory conditions. The Tieszens are also excited about their new on-site x-ray machine. "Its the safest, newest technology available and we dont have to refer patients out for x-rays, said Tieszen. For Tieszen Chiropractic, the MedCashManager program is making a difference in the services they offer patients as well as a financial improvement in their bottom line. Its a great service that gives medical practices the opportunity to improve cash flow and in turn allow the business to purchase updated equipment and increase staff, said Hill. Its also a seamless process invisible to patients, that wont leave them feeling out of joint.
