If given a choice, Dr. Robert Thomas would find ways to climb into airplanes and fly every single day.
“Oh, how I wish,” Thomas said smiling. “But I have a job to do.”
Grounded far too often for his liking, Thomas still plays a pivotal role in the lives of many of the pilots who make Alaska’s aviation industry soar. A certified aero-medical examiner, Thomas specializes in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) physicals, in addition to men’s health and alternative medicine.
He’s worked as a flight surgeon for NASA and the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.
Thomas opened ATP Medicine, LTD in 2013 and takes his role as an FAA senior aviation medical examiner very seriously.
On occasions when Quinn Anderson meets with Dr. Robert Thomas, the First National Bank Alaska Personal Banker and the owner of ATP Medicine, LTD often enjoy conversations that extend beyond ways to grow the doctor’s medical practice.
“Because Dr. Thomas feels confident in my abilities to provide him the best banking products and services, he bounces a lot of ideas off me and we discuss ways his business can grow,” Anderson said. “We also share personal stories.
“It’s like we’ve known each other for years.”
In the three years since Dr. Robert Thomas opened ATP Medicine, LTD in its current location, the board-certified physician and avid pilot has prided himself in making the office a welcoming place for his fellow flyers.
Appointments or not, Thomas’ patients have regularly congregated at ATP to share stories about recent flights and just hang out.
“They talk flying, share photos and other wonderful imagery of the places they travel,” Thomas said. “We all have a similar passion for aviation.”
The pleasantries don’t end there.
ATP’s decision to team up with First National Bank Alaska to provide the best in merchant services has been a plus as well. From the Clover Mini cloud-based point-of-sale (POS) system to flexible payment acceptance options, First National’s products and services and the banking experts behind them make Thomas’ work days run smoothly.
