Weiss welcomed to First National Board of Directors

First National Bank Alaska has announced Janet Weiss as the newest addition to the bank’s Board of Directors. Weiss previously served as Regional President of BP Alaska for over seven years before all assets were transferred in a sale to Hilcorp Alaska. As president, she was responsible for BP’s oil and gas development and production.

“For more than 35 years, Janet has gathered firsthand knowledge of how important oil and gas production is for the Alaska economy,” said Board Chair and CEO Betsy Lawer. ”This grass-roots insight and hands-on local experience running a complex business in the most challenging of environments will be invaluable to the bank in its mission to help Alaskans, their businesses, and communities succeed.”

Weiss received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Oklahoma State University. She began her career in Alaska in 1986 as a process engineer before moving into reservoir engineering.

Weiss joins Lawer, Vice Chair Lucy Mahan, First National Bank Alaska President Doug Longacre, Adm. Tom Barrett, USCG (ret.), Perry Eaton, Margy Johnson, Jane Klopfer and Tom Tougas on the Board.

All the Directors were either elected or reelected to their Board positions during the bank’s annual shareholder meeting on April 27, 2021. Action was also taken to reelect Lawer as Chair, Mahan as Vice Chair and Eaton as Lead Director.
