First National Bank Alaska helps bring early cancer detection access to more Alaskans

(FAIRBANKS) First National Bank Alaska donated $15,000 to the Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska (BCDC) to help purchase a new mobile mammography truck, increasing access to state-of-the-art mammograms to people across Alaska, including those living in remote areas of the state or who can’t afford to pay.

“Since 1976, BCDC has helped Alaskans understand how the early detection of breast cancer leads to a higher survivability rate,” said Betsy Lawer, Board Chair and CEO/President of First National. “Our support of the Mobile Mammography program will bring early detection tools to more Alaskans and help save lives.”

“We’re so grateful to First National for their support of a new mobile unit to help BCDC better assist our patients in the 21 communities we regularly serve across Alaska, from Angoon to Anchor Point,” said BCDC Executive Director Jacyn DeBaun. “Many other communities will be reached during the new mobile unit’s lifespan when factoring in that BCDC has served over 70 different Alaska communities where these lifesaving services were not readily available.”
