Bank gives more than $1.6 million in 2008

Fourth quarter contributions of $599,424 pushed the total above $1.6 million given to Alaska communities in 2008 by First National Bank Alaska and its 730 employees. The total includes charitable gifts, activity sponsorships and in-kind donations of time and talent during the past year.

Financial support totaling $1,654,819 was given to a wide variety of health, youth, educational, civic and arts organizations in the state. Education was again a major focus of the banks support, with significant contributions to University of Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Pacific University, University of Alaska Southeast, and the University of Alaska Foundation.

First Nationals support of Alaskas youth remained consistent in the past year, as it continued its long-time contributions to organizations such as Boys and Girls Club, Alaska Theatre of Youth, Anchorage Youth Court, Alaska School Activities Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Chugiak Childrens Services, Junior Achievement and the Girls Scouts Susitna Council.

Recipients of other major contributions in 2008 included the Anchorage Museum Foundations Expansion Program, American Diabetes Association, Alaska Public Radio Network, United Way, Beans Cafe, Kodiak Historical Society, Armed Services YMCA, Anchorage Opera, American Lung Association, Soldotna Senior Citizens, Tundra Womens Coalition, and the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, among many others.

In addition to these donations, bank employees volunteered hundreds of hours to assist organizations and the people they serve. First National Bank also donated thousands of dollars of gift items such as childrens toys, sporting goods, office supplies and clothing items.

Established in 1922, First National is Alaskas largest Alaskan-owned and operated bank, with ATMs and 30 branches in 18 communities throughout Alaska. More information about First National is available at www.FNBAlaska.com
