First National Bank Changes Name

First National Bank shareholders today voted overwhelmingly to change the bank's name to more accurately reflect the state-wide nature of its business.

Our Alaskan owned and operated bank has been serving Alaskans for nearly 80 years, so changing our legal name from First National Bank of Anchorage to First National Bank Alaska is a natural step, D.H. Cuddy, the bank's president and chairman, said here today at a special shareholders meeting.

When the bank opened in 1922, it was the first national bank to be chartered in Anchorage. Another national bank had already opened in Skagway, thus the name of the new Anchorage bank was chartered by the federal government as First National Bank of Anchorage. When legal restrictions on branching relaxed, First National continued to expand its banking services to areas outside Anchorage. Today the bank operates 27 branches located throughout the state, as well as rural ATM service in 18 Alaska communities and Internet banking for customers worldwide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
