Local bank among top in nation

For the 73rd straight consecutive quarter First National Bank Alaska received a five-star rating for excellence, the longest streak of any Alaskan-owned bank. This puts First National in the top four percent of banks nationwide.

For more than a decade First National has been recognized as one of the top banks in America and this year the bank has again been named among the nations safest banks by two leading, independent bank analysts.

First National is recognized by Bauer Financial Reports Inc. as an Exceptional Performance Bank, a distinction reserved for banks that have earned a five-star rating for at least 10 consecutive years. Only four percent of banks national wide have earned this distinction by earning five-stars 73 consecutive quarters. It is the highest rating available for strength and stability.

The rating is based on an evaluation of financial data provided by First National to federal regulators. Bauer Financial analyzes the data and issues the rating, from zero to five stars.

The bank has also remained fourth on the Weiss Ratings top 20 safest banks in the nation list, the only Alaskan-owned bank on the list. First National received an A+ rating, the highest one awarded by Weiss.
Weiss Ratings tracks the financial strength of 15,000 financial institutions each quarter, with ratings ranging from A+ to E-.
