Local banking comes to Healy

Businesses and residents in Denali Borough communities will soon have a local, Alaska bank in Healy when First National Bank Alaska opens its 30th branch in March 2008.

The branch will offer five-day-a-week banking. First National will recruit locally to fill three positions at the branch to be located in the Tri-Valley Community Center in Healy.

At First National, weve always thought theres nothing like talking face-to-face and working shoulder-to-shoulder to build a strong relationship, said Betsy Lawer, the banks Chief Operating Officer and Vice Chair. Its a lot easier to believe your banker is invested in your success when that banker lives and works in Alaska.

Branch manager Teri Simmons has worked for First National for four years in Fairbanks, first as a management trainee and, since 2005, as a loan officer at the banks Johansen Branch. She is a member of the Greater Healy / Denali Chamber of Commerce and also serves on the board of directors for the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce. She has volunteered with the local United Way campaign for the past several years.

Ive brought First Nationals services to the people who live and work in the Denali Borough for the past couple of years, Simmons said. Before we came to Healy, residents and business owners had to travel 110 miles to Fairbanks to conduct banking business in person. Now they can visit their banker right in their own community. Simmons said the bank plans to open the new Healy Branch on March 12.
