New Chief Operating Officer brings wealth of experience

Morton V. Plumb, a member of First Nationals Board of Directors, was recently appointed chief operating officer. Plumb will remain a member of First Nationals Board of Directors and Betsy Lawer will continue as vice-chair and corporate loan officer. Transition of the COO duties from Lawer to Plumb will support managements focus on the operational and market challenges to the banks continued growth and success.


Plumb brings extensive leadership and management experience to First National, most recently as the director of Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. Before his position as the director of the airport, Plumb also held key management positions in the United States Air Force, including service to the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington D.C. He was also responsible for directing the Department of Defenses military support for the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill.


He holds an MBA and a bachelors degree in history and political science. His postgraduate work includes studies at the American University in Washington, the Executive Management Program at Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration and the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania.


Plumb is active in many community organizations, including the Downtown Anchorage Rotary Club, Alaska State Chamber of Commerce and UAA College of Fellows. He also served as an ex-officio member of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce and the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation. In 2006 he received the Armed Services Robert B. Atwood for Outstanding Civilian of the Year.
