North Star Branch is a winner

Walk into your bank's new branch and walk out with a new iPad Mini - not a bad way to cap a month-long celebration.

In May, First National Bank Alaska played host to a number of festivities and events commemorating the new North Star Branch's opening on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. The month culminated when four random-drawing winners were announced.

Branch customers and visitors entered the drawing during the entire month.

Winners included:

* Stanley Douglas - iPad Mini

* Charlie Dickson - iPad Mini

* David Goss - iPod gift set

* Mary Pat Heller - golf bag gift set

First National has a 70-year history of serving Alaska's military. It began in 1943 with a facility in Adak, which provided banking services to soldiers and civilian workers stationed there during World War II. At the time, it was the westernmost banking institution in the United States.

"The history and the bank's relationship with the military is really a plus," said Douglas, a 19-year military member. "You can be kind of limited living and working on a military installation. But in this new establishment, you come right in and feel welcome.

"As a customer, you want that warmth."

The 3,950-square foot North Star Branch (5850 Westover Avenue) features a staff of seven, two drive-up lanes, a drive-up ATM and a night drop depository. The branch also houses First National's first full-function customer kiosk, where customers can handle routine banking transactions online without teller assistance.

Alaskan-owned and operated since 1922, First National proudly meets the financial needs of Alaskans with ATMs and 30 branches in 18 communities throughout the state. Forbes named the bank one the nation's 100 Most Trustworthy Companies in 2012 and 2013.
