Wasilla Branch celebrates 30 years - Donation presented to local MYHouse charity

Helping a once sleepy Wasilla town grow into the bustling commercial, and thriving residential center of the Mat-Su is a job Craig Thorn and his team of fellow Alaskan bankers are proud to celebrate.
Today’s 30th anniversary of First National Bank Alaska’s Wasilla Branch is marked with a $1,000 donation to MYHouse, a Mat-Su non-profit serving more than 150 homeless youth in the Valley age 14-24 yrs. old. “With the support of neighbors like First National Bank's Wasilla Branch, we are able to make a difference in the lives of Alaskan youth," said MYHouse executive director Michelle Overstreet.
“Over the past 30 years, First National’s Wasilla Branch has expanded to meet the growing needs of our community, bringing convenient banking services to residents and visitors of Wasilla andthe Valley,” reflected First National Bank Senior Vice President Craig Thorn. As the bank’s regional manager in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, Thorn says it’s the local knowledge his team brings to their commitment to growing a healthy community that makes a difference in the branch’s success.
“We’re proud of our role in helping Wasilla grow,” Thorn said. “Our bank has made hundreds of millions of dollars in loans and investments, helping to build everything from roads, schools and businesses to low income housing in the Mat-Su community.”
The 33-person staff at the Wasilla Branch works hand in hand with their neighbors as they volunteer with a variety of different community groups and non-profits hard at work in Wasilla. “Our employees serve in leadership positions with community groups like the United Way of Mat-Su, the chambers of commerce, local Rotary International service clubs and the Mat-Su Health Foundation,” said Branch Manager Danielle Howard.“These employees also volunteer their personal time, expertise and talent to numerous non-profits serving our friends and neighbors. It is our honor to be able to help some of those neighbors with this gift today from First National to MYHouse.”
